Last year, I heard about cases of human hibernation. The applications of this ranged from use during surgeries to space travel (apparently NASA is interested in this topic for its potential, like sleeping to Mars!). Anyway, I stumbled across this blog post while searching for accidental instances of human hibernations and it’s fantastic:

I don’t have much to add to it, so tldr: there are multiple instances of humans surviving extended periods of time in freezing temperatures. Recent cases are accidental and occurred where oxygen is limited and temperatures are low. Otherwise there are stories of Russain peasants sleeping through most of winter (called lotsca) to lower food consumption, because food was so scarce.
